Why I chose Digital Marketing
Sometimes, our career journey doesn’t go exactly according to plan. Mine certainly didn’t.
Looking back, I can see how digital marketing became the right path for me.
I completed my engineering degree in 2006 and later worked in HR in a hospital. After getting married, my priorities changed, and I became busy raising my two children. As my children grew older, I started thinking about restarting my professional journey and doing something different.
Finding My Way Back to Learning
When I decided to restart my professional journey, I explored different options.
I completed an ECCED course, got certified and also did an internship. At one point, I started a Data Science course, but I couldn’t complete it.
Looking back, I don’t see these experiences as failures. Each one helped me understand what I liked, what interested me and what I wanted to explore further.
Then digital marketing came into my life rather unexpectedly.
How I discovered Digital Marketing
About a year before I started learning digital marketing, I had already noticed how much social media was growing. I remember seeing videos and advertisements on social media, including a motivating video in Telugu on Facebook featuring a well-known personality.
Later, I came across an advertisement on Instagram about learning digital marketing. What caught my attention was that it didn’t require a technical background.
I thought it could be a good opportunity to start something new. Digital marketing was also becoming increasingly important, and I liked the idea that it was practical, had a wide scope and could offer flexibility, including the possibility of working from home.
That flexibility was important to me. But I wasn’t completely confident.
“Will I Be Able To Learn This?”
One of my biggest doubts when I started was: “Will I really be able to learn digital marketing?”
I wasn’t someone who was very comfortable with social media, and I’m naturally an introvert. So entering a field that involved social media, communication, content and reaching people felt a little challenging.
But I decided to give it a try.
And slowly, something interesting happened.
I started enjoying it.
What I Enjoyed About Digital Marketing
One of the first things I really enjoyed was content creation. I became interested in how people share their real-life experiences through blogs, create meaningful captions and use copywriting to communicate an idea.
It made me realise that digital marketing is not only about technology or advertising. It is also about people, stories and communication.
Why I Love WordPress
As I continued learning, WordPress became one of my favourite parts of digital marketing. I enjoy designing websites, developing different sections and seeing how everything comes together. I also find SEO interesting—understanding how websites can be optimised, how links work and how content can help improve search rankings
What Digital Marketing Has Taught Me
One thing I’ve learned is that good research is very important. Understanding the business, the audience and what people are looking for can help create better marketing results.
I’ve also realised that digital marketing is about reaching the right audience, generating relevant traffic and leads, building engagement and improving online visibility through SEO.
I also became interested in SEO and how websites can be improved for search engines. I started learning more about SEO through resources such as Google Search Essentials.
Why I Want to Help Small Businesses
I believe many small businesses are doing very well, but they may not get enough online exposure because they aren’t using social media, SEO and website optimisation effectively. I would love to help these businesses reach the right audience, get better visibility and grow their online presence.
From Doubt To Confidence
When I look back, I can see how much I have changed. I started with doubts about whether I could learn digital marketing, but today I feel much more confident.
I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m enjoying the journey and continuing to build my skills.
My Advice to Anyone Starting Again
If you’re thinking about starting something new, my advice is simple: just go for it.
Don’t keep thinking that you won’t be able to learn something new. It may feel difficult in the beginning, but with time, practice and consistency, you can learn.
My journey has not been a straight line, but every experience has taught me something. Today, I’m continuing to learn digital marketing, build my skills and work towards my goal of becoming a successful freelance digital marketer in Dubai.
Sometimes, starting again isn’t starting from zero. It’s starting with everything you’ve already learned.
